Today, Cobb Africa – a joint venture between Irvine’s and Cobb-Vantress, LLC – is powered by the same core values of technical expertise, leading facilities, hands-on customer support and global best practice.

Enhancing our combined footprint across Africa, enabling us to advance local poultry farmers through enhanced genetics, improved productivity and efficient farming practices.

Today, Cobb Africa supplies over 2 million parent stock across sub-Saharan Africa. With a focus on continued innovation, expansion and development to better serve our communities, partners, countries and continent.

Dr Sanjay Maharaj
Director, Cobb Africa
Sanjay completed his BSc Master’s Degree from the University of Natal and joined Rainbow Chickens (Pty) Ltd as a Laboratory Technologist responsible for Virology and Vaccine Production. He completed his PhD in 1994 working on a vaccine for commercial chicken flocks, which soon became a part of the vaccination programme at Rainbow Chickens. In 1996, Sanjay was recognised as the top student in the Stellenbosch University Management Development Programme. After being promoted to Technical Manager at the Rainbow Chickens laboratory, Sanjay joined the production team as Hatcheries Area Manager, before moving through various management roles within the company.  

In 2007, he was appointed as Agricultural Executive for the KwaZulu-Natal Region and in 2014 became the Agricultural Executive responsible for KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Limpopo. In 2018, Sanjay was appointed to the position of Agriculture and Breed Director of the Chicken Operations for RCL Foods. With 33 years’ experience in the poultry industry, Sanjay was appointed as Chief Operations Officer at Irvine’s International in 2021
Patrick Murphy
Director, Cobb Africa
Patrick graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Natal and began his career with Alltech, a global organisation selling animal feed additives. He opened an office in the UAE, to better service the Middle East region whilst completing a four-year Advanced Management and Business Development Programme with UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. He joined the Irvine’s Group in 2009 as the General Manager for Cobb Africa, working across the Sub-Saharan Africa region growing sales and footprint.

Having worked in over 20 countries across Africa and the Middle East, Patrick is passionate about operating in informal and developing markets whilst identifying areas for new business development. He acts as Chief Commercial Officer of Irvine’s International and is responsible for Irvine’s Group Commercial Strategy whilst supporting Irvine’s customers and commercial teams across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Roy Mutimer
Director, Cobb Africa
Having joined Cobb in 1995, Roy has held various roles in the UK and USA with responsibilities spanning across Commercial, Laboratories, Quality Assurance and Animal Welfare. Born and raised on a farm in England, Roy began his career with the UK Government Veterinary Investigation Service in 1981, completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Microbiology.

Roy leads Cobbs’ diverse, far-reaching commercial businesses across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. His responsibilities include managing a wide array of commercial set-ups and customer types, tailoring our offering to meet the unique needs of every market.
Dominic Smith
Director, Cobb Africa
Dominic graduated with a Bachelors of Science Hons in Livestock Management and joined Cobb in 2008 as a graduate trainee, gaining experience in production, sales and tech, marketing, and QA departments. He transitioned to the QA team, overseeing internal quality systems, biosecurity, and animal welfare, eventually becoming Quality Assurance Manager.

After relocating to the US, he managed GGP and GP facilities for two years before returning to the UK to oversee production in the UK, Ireland, and Russia. In 2019, Dominic was promoted to Cobb Europe Production Director, responsible for all farming and hatchery operations.

By 2023, he advanced to Senior Director of Operations for Cobb Europe, overseeing all internal operations, including the development of the hatchery and farm in Tanzania. Dominic is passionate about developing teams that deliver exceptional performance and customer experience.
Theo Bezuidenhout
General Manager, Cobb Africa
Theo holds a BSc in Animal Science from the University of Pretoria and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Edinburgh Business School. He joined the Irvines group in March 2024 as Director and General Manager of Cobb East Africa having previously lead Sales and Customer Service for Cobb South Africa – a business unit at RCL Foods (Pty) Ltd, one of the largest poultry integrators in South Africa.

Theo contributes a wealth of technical and managerial expertise, forming part of our strategic team focusing on East Africa and the expansion of the Cobb Africa. Continuing our mission to provide world class support to every Cobb customer and partner.
Ouma Hookom
Supply Chain Manager, Cobb Africa
Ouma graduated with a BSc Management from the University of Mauritius with Certifications in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM). From beginning her career in the Mauritian textile industry, Ouma then moved to pharmaceuticals as a part of Aspen Global Inc. She joined the Cobb Africa Team in July 2024 as Supply Chain Manager and is based in our Grand Baie Mauritius office where she brings a wealth of operational, continuity and relationship excellence to our team.
